I am Karen Ivey, Board President of Calumet Public School District 132. I have been a resident since 1991. As a mother of 10 children, some with special needs, I believe that all children can and should learn. I am a believer of support for all children. I have been a member of the school board since 2001. High expectations do produce positive results. Give a child the support they need and they will succeed. Being a role model for my children, I have attended some colleges, Kennedy King College, Trinity Christian College and Morraine Community College. I have been and continue to be an influence on the life of my students. I look forward to many years of continued service to the community.
Mrs. Ivey has been a Master Board Member for 8 years.
My name is William (Bill) Connor, married with (1) one daughter. Living in Calumet Park for over 18 years, I have been involved in many activities in the school system and committees. Having been a board member for over 12 years I was always there with my concerns in keeping the communication lines open between the teachers, parents and the board. As a term I look at the board member role is to serve the stakeholders, support the teachers and students with the needs and wants in our district and community. Setting goals and remembering attitudes is a little thing that makes a big difference. As a Board Member I will continue to work together with my members to make sure that our goal is to have the concerns of students first.

I, Constance (Connie) Smith, have lived in the Village of Calumet Park for 32 years, with my two children and two grandchildren. I retired from Roseland Community Hospital working in the ultrasound sound, radiology department. I served on the Planning Commission board from 1993 to 1995. I was instrumental in bringing new housing, and business to the Village of Calumet Park. I was elected as a trustee in 1995, serving as chairwoman to the police and fire committee. There I worked diligently with the police and fire department to keep out village safe.
My grandsons are currently enrolled in the Calumet Park school system, so I will work together with the school board and superintendent to keep the schools of Calumet Park safe, and stay in good standing. I was a hard worker for the Village of Calumet Park and will bring this same work ethic to the school system.
Calumet Park is the place to be. Let’s keep the school system the place to be and learn.
My name is Patricia Ann Carr. I have been a resident and property owner in Calumet Park, IL for the past 28 years. I previously worked for five years as a substitute teacher in School District 132. I have achieved Master Board Member recognition for service and participation in various Illinois Association of School Boards and National School Boards Association activities within a two year timeframe.
In addition, I have earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Chicago State University and a Master of Science in Telecommunications from Southern Methodist University. I have earned more than 30 credit hours toward a Master in Early Childhood Education from Chicago State University. Currently, I own and operate a licensed Home Day Care. I believe that our children's educational experience is impacted by many factors such as an infrastructure that is conducive to 21st century learning, outstanding teachers and administrators, actively involved parents, and fiscal responsibility. The combination of these factors should provide a learning atmosphere that enables our children to realize their full potential, as well as prepare them to be lifelong learners and active contributors in our global society. I also promote the relationship between our schools and community.
My name is Janice Harrison. I have been a resident of Calumet Park for 35 years. I have been married for 36 years and I have one daughter. I am a graduate of Arkansas A.M. & N. College (University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff), with a degree in education. I have several years of experience as a school board member. I am a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. A. Edward Davis, Jr.
I became a school board member because I care about the children’s education and my community. I hope to bring ideas and unity for the school and the parents.
I was compelled to become a Board member, in April of 2003, because I believe that education is not an option instead it is a right that should be afforded every child. The students of our district deserve a bright future which is just around the corner. During this school year, I have been involved in the process of restructuring the district's educational system. The district now has a new curriculum, new books, more certified teachers, test prep classes and more. As a resident for more than 25 years, I have developed a deep love for the Calumet Park Community. I attend many community meetings and understand that volunteering is the heart of a quality and progressive community. I have attended Chicago State University and continue to further my education at Moraine Valley Community College. I believe that education is perpetual and not provisional. A First-Rate Educational School District? YES! District 132 can be that and more!
